March 2nd, 2010Volkswagen Repair in Oceanside
February 11th, 2010I recently purchased a 95 Volkswagen Jetta. At the time of purchase the engine would shutter and hesitate at lower RPM. After thoroghly searching the Volkswagon forums at VW vortex and pulling the error codes I was completely confused as to what the issue was. Luckily I found Joseph (a.k.a. Smitty) at Smitty’s surfside garage in Oceanside via referral from a personal friend.
Not only did they fix the shutter and the mysterious check engine light associated with it but they dug so deep into the engine and electronics that every problem that needed to be fixed was discovered. They even offered to do some body work on the one and only ding the car had. The result was a 95 volkswagen jetta that not only looked new but ran like new. They we’re also kind enough to point out that my distributor was causing most of the problems because it wasn’t an approved volkswagon distributor. After the fix I had so much more power and no shuttering/hesitation.
I think the best thing about Smitty’s was that the owner seemed honest. As someone born and raised in the midwest Joseph felt like someone I could trust. He refused to replace any parts with cheap substitutions even though it cost a bit more and advised me as to why it was necessary.
Anyway, bottom line is that I would highly recommend Smitty’s for Volkswagen repair in Oceanside. If you live outside of Oceanside I also recommend you take your volkswagen to Smitty. It’s worth the drive. Thanks Smitty for your good work!

Why I went to Smitty’s Auto Repair in Oceanside
February 11th, 2010It’s not easy to find a good shop that works on older cars and let’s you bring in your own parts. I own a 1973 Dodge challenger and i want some head put on that I picked up on e-bay. I called a round and out of the 5 shops I call Smittys Garage was the only one who said that would put on “my Parts” at what I thought was a very good price. Even though there was a little issue with a leak due to the gaskets I supplied they fixed it while i waited at now additional change… you gotta love that.
Thanks Smitty’s for the extra effort and great work.
Brian D.
